B.J. Wentker arrived from Germany in 1880. After gaining employment at the Finke-Uhen Brewery, he realized the need for a high-class tavern to showcase the fine products the local brewery was producing. Wentker's dream was to cater to a select trade, who appreciated his efforts to give the public a high-class establishment. He wanted to provide fine food, liquors, wines, and cigars; and he prided himself on the good quality of his stock - never offering anything inferior to his loyal friends and customers. It is now our desire to continue the tradition and grandeur that B.J. Wentker attained so many years ago.
