The Kemler's came to Wisconsin in 1987 to buy the Lamp Restaurant. Shortly after coming to the area they discovered that real!!! cheese steaks did not exist in Wisconsin and that the ingredients were very hard to find.
On trips home to Philly they would stock up on steak rolls, white American cheese and Tastykakes so they could make cheese steaks and hoagies in Wisconsin. In 1996, they had finally found all the ingredients for authentic cheese steaks, hoagies & grinders. After finding the perfect location, Ken & Betty's was opened.
